Better Living on the Web: Red, White and Blue Recipes

If you’re at all like me, summer seems to be moving much too quickly. Wasn’t it only a few weeks ago that I was shivering in leather boots and wishing for longer days and warmer weather? Now that the sunnier days are here, I want to make the best of all the ones I have left.

I spent much of last month planning the barbecues, picnics and summer parties July and August would bring. And with June so suddenly behind us, it’s time I put some of the preparation to good use. The Fourth of July is the first big holiday of the season, so I’ve compiled a list of refreshing summer recipes with a twist: They’re all color coordinated for Independence Day!

So if you’re not sure what to bring to your neighborhood block party, or how to best end your own backyard barbecue, try some of these delicious (and festive) treats.

RED
5 Watermelon Cocktails (The Mother Nature Network)
Raspberries and Cream Ice Pops (People’s Pops via therecipeclub.net)

WHITE
No-Bake Coconut Snowballs Gluten-free, nut-free and vegan! (The Kitchn)
One-Ingredient Banana Ice Cream Top with blueberries and strawberries for a patriotic dessert (YouTube: Rule of Yum)

BLUE
Blueberry Dumplings (NPR)
Two-tone (Blue and Gold) Potato Salad (Food and Wine)

For more recipe inspiration, our friends at The Recipe Club have put together three July 4th menus, including one that puts a healthy spin summer classics.
