To celebrate the new year, we thought it would be fun to share with you a few of the smile-inducing portraits from photographer Joseph Peter’s new book The Book of Happiness: Africa, which goes on sale tomorrow.
In 2009, Peter traveled through 50 African nations in 75 days and shot over 150,000 images. He photographed everyone from presidents and heads of state to soldiers, workers and children of all ages. Originally presented to Nelson Mandela as a personal gift from the photographer, many of the images have been collected in this book and are now everyone’s to enjoy. “Happiness,” according to Peter, “is a state of mind,” and I hope these photographs bring you a bit of joy.
From all of us here at Books for Better Living, we wish you a very “Happy” New Year. Scroll down to see the photos—we dare you not to smile. Who knows, it might even lower your stress level.
