10 Foods That Could Be Making You Sick and Exhausted

Millions of people suffer from candida overgrowth and don’t even know it. Are you one of them?

We’re just now beginning to understand the profound impact microbiomes in our gut have on our physical and mental health. If you’re feeling anxious, depressed, overweight, or tired, chances are an overgrowth of yeast in your digestive tract could be the cause.

Do you have candida overgrowth? You can take the full assessment in The Candida Cure to be sure, but here are a few questions for you to consider. If you answer ‘yes’ to half or more, it’s worth taking a closer look to find out if you are suffering from candidiasis.

– Have you ever taken broad-spectrum antibiotics for two months or longer?
– Have you been pregnant two or more times?
– Have you taken birth control pills for more than two years?
– Do you crave breads? Sugars? Alcoholic beverages?
– Do you feel drained, fatigued, tired, lethargic?
– Do you have insomnia?
– Do you experience abdominal pain, constipation, bloating, indigestion, or diarrhea?
– Do you suffer from anxiety/panic attacks?
– Are you shaky or irritable when you’re hungry?
– Do you get headaches frequently?
– Do you find it difficult to concentrate?

Gut health is whole body health. It’s time to learn how to nourish our bodies and starve the yeast and we can do that by being mindful of what we consume. Nutritional consultant and naturopath, Ann Boroch shares a nutrition-based 90-day plan to cleanse, rebalance, and maintain a healthy gut. You’ll feel lighter, brighter, and more vibrant.

But first, you need to remove some foods (and drinks) from your diet – right now.

These foods upset your body’s balance and feed unhealthy candida levels. Some will be tough for you to eliminate – that’s okay. Choose several categories that are easy for you to avoid. Identify several that you can cut in half. Then give yourself a break on the ones that you can’t let go . . . but be mindful of how much you’re consuming. Keep an eye on that and chances are, in time, you’ll be able to cut back, bit by bit. And every little bit helps.

Refined Sugar

1. Refined Sugar

Candida thrives in sugar. Sucrose, fructose, dextrose, glucose, evaporated cane juice, high-fructose corn syrup, lactose, maltose, refined sugar — none of it has any nutritional value, and all of it depletes vitamins and minerals, wreaks havoc on the pancreas, and weakens your immune system.

Trans Fat

2. Trans Fats

Found in processed foods, pastries, breads, crackers, microwave popcorn, chips, cookies, and margarine. Trans-fatty acids are major contributors to heart disease, diminished mental performance, increased risk of depression and even Alzheimer’s disease.

Refined Carbs

3. Refined Carbohydrates

White flour, white rice, refined grains are found in baked goods, desserts, breads, and crackers. They coat the lining of your gastrointestinal tract, which contributes to leaky gut syndrome and paves the way for inflammation and candida overgrowth.

4. Dairy Products

Ice cream, yogurt, and cheese (anything made from cow’s milk) contribute to allergies, headaches, joint and muscle pain, depression, lack of energy, and more. You don’t have to be lactose intolerant to suffer from too much dairy in your diet. Better to get your calcium from the same source cows get theirs: leafy plants.

animal proteins

5. Certain and Excessive Animal Proteins

Protein is essential for your body’s health, but it’s best to be selective. Organically raised chicken and turkey are your best choice because pork contains a high concentration of parasites, red meat is acidic with your body chemistry, and fish often contains toxins from our polluted oceans.

6. Caffeine

Coffee, soda, tea, and chocolate all raise blood sugar levels, and all of it is acidic. You want your body to be alkaline, so limit your intake and consider trying organic white tea. It has a small amount of caffeine, it works as a blood cleanser, and it won’t disrupt your endocrine system like coffee does.

7. Alcohol

All alcohol is a neurotoxin – it creates an inflammatory response and depletes vitamins and minerals in your body. Your best choice is a “dry spirit” like vodka that’s distilled and has less sugar than wine, beer, sake, or champagne.

food allergens

8. Food Allergens

Most food allergy tests result in false positives. The best thing you can do for your body is to cleanse the foods that cause inflammation and infections. Many times the food you think you’re allergic too are okay to eat once your body (and your gut) is in balance.

9. Gluten

White flour, rye, most oats, barley, spelt, kamut, triticale, and wheat all contain gluten, a protein complex that’s abrasive to your GI tract. It’s harder for your body to absorb nutrients when your intestinal walls are sticky with gluten.

artificial sweeteners

10. Artificial Sweeteners and Sugar Alcohols

Aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose are all created with chemicals that are known carcinogens. More people are turning to sugar alcohols like erythritol, maltitol, mannitol, sorbitol, and xylitol. Xylitol in small amounts is your best bet.
