As spring continues and we get ready for summer, we want to refocus our energy on literacy and our love of reading. As mentioned earlier, we’re partnering with READ Global to help promote literacy and bring books and resources to READ Centers in rural Asia. READ collaborates with rural communities to build centers so that individuals, families and entire communities have access to the knowledge, resources and opportunities necessary to build more prosperous futures. What does this mean? More books and more reading!
So how can you help promote literacy?
Like us on Facebook. Spread the word to your friends. We will donate $.50 up to a maximum of $1,500 to READ Global for every new “like” received between Thursday, April 12 and Saturday, May 12. Random House will match Books for Better Living’s donations up to $1,500. That’s $3000!
READ in Numbers:
1.8 million rural villagers have access to READ Centers
90 for-profit enterprises sustain READ Centers
125 villages worldwide are served by READ Centers
4,500 books, on average, in each READ Center
58 READ Centers established to date
If you think that’s impressive, READ’s goals are just beginning. In the next five years, READ plans to build 30 new centers, empower 16,000 women and girls, introduce alternative energy to all new centers, and create more high-profit generating enterprises. Every day, rural villagers are visiting READ Centers and improving their reading skills, learning how to access the Internet or accessing critical health information. We’re proud to be able to help this wonderful organization use literacy and knowledge to help alleviate poverty.
So Go To It! Like us on Facebook, spread the word to your friends, and remember that your contribution promotes literacy and spreads books across the globe.
